Craigslist Starts Charging Rental Brokers in New York

Bookmark It:
In response to growing spam and scams, Craigslist is now charging rental brokers in New York City a small fee of $10 to list. Meant not as an additional profit center, but a deterrent for spammers, the section now features a much cleaner, easier to use amount of real, credible ads. Ad posting has already dropped by 96% in one day.

I am a Craigslist purest, but I do think that some areas of the website have become overloaded with junk at times. Heck, I wrote a book about marketing on Craigslist, but not spamming it. For it to remain useful it needs to be about real people and real products/services, not just junk.

So I welcome it in some parts and think it stands to only increase effectiveness for the real people using it. After all, what is a few dollars to gain a larger portion of your market and see better results?
